Combi boiler conversion in Shepshed

The Brief

A homeowner in Shepshed was still running an older Baxi Solo boiler alongside a traditional hot water cylinder. The setup worked, but it took up space in the property and was no longer the most practical way to heat the home and provide the hot water. They wanted to modernise it. That meant removing the old boiler and the cylinder and converting the property from a traditional system to a combi boiler system, which needed alterations to the heating, hot and cold water pipework before anything new could go on the wall.

What We Did

We recommended a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000 combi boiler. It gave the customer a modern, efficient system with hot water on demand, and it removed the need for the hot water cylinder, freeing up space in the property. We stripped out the existing Baxi Solo boiler and the cylinder, then carried out the pipework alterations needed to convert the system. The new Worcester Bosch Greenstar 4000 went in along with new controls and system protection, and the heating system was flushed and treated with inhibitor. The installation was fully tested and commissioned, then registered with Worcester Bosch and in accordance with Building Regulations.

Challenges

Converting a traditional heating and hot water system to a combi setup means reworking pipework that was never laid out for it. The main challenge was doing that neatly and with as little disruption to the property as possible, so we planned the alterations carefully before the new boiler went in.

The Result

The homeowner now has a modern Worcester Bosch combi boiler running the heating and providing hot water on demand. Taking out the old boiler and the cylinder has simplified the system and given back useful space where the cylinder used to be. The whole combi conversion was completed in a day, and the system was left tested, commissioned and fully working.
